My name is Jonathan, welcome.
I figure that if you’ve stumbled upon this site you might like to know a little bit about me and the site itself.
I am a husband and a father, a brother and a son. This is a place where I share with whoever is interested my thoughts, insights, and how I am growing at any given time. I definitely don’t have all the answers and still have a long ways to go to become the person I would like to become. I find that I don’t agree with anyone 100%, especially myself from my younger days, so I definitely don’t expect or want you to simply agree with everything I write here. Hopefully, in coming years I will disagree with the current me as well, that’s a part of growth. But, often growth happens through interaction with others. So, hopefully we can be a part of each other’s process of becoming. However, for that to happen, it has to take place with authenticity, vulnerability, open-mindedness, and kindness.
While the posts here are public, this is a personal blog. In no way are my writings here intended to represent anyone, anywhere, or any organizations of which I have been a part past, present, or future. I am the director of a family resource center and a former counseling resident. I have worked in various ministry envrionments since my teens, in various roles ranging from youth and college ministry to associate and senior pastor. I have taught Ethics and Psychology at the college level. I have done web design and computer repair, and I used to own a small business.
I love to learn, I’m fascinated with technology, I love being able to help people, and I’m captivated by Jesus.
I’m fascinated by religious organizations. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love to explore where they go right as so often I find myself cringing at where they go wrong. I enjoy attempting to peek out over the horizon to re-imagine what life and faith can be because I believe we can continue to do better to be a force for good. I like helping people, especially helping them find faith, healing, and ways to move forward, whatever that may mean for them. These ramblings are my fumbling, stumbling attempts at growing more toward the type of person I would like to be. I’m not there yet, I’m still in process, but hopefully I’m progressing.
At this point, my primary goal is to grow to become the most loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, self-controlled, hopeful person I can and that the world be a better place because I am a part of it.
My undergraduate degree is in Religion and Philosophy and I have graduate degrees in Divinity and Counseling. I like wrestling with the big questions of life and looking to find meaning and significance, especially in the mundane and ordinary. I love finding an answer to a question and it opening up a million more. I find myself captivated by Jesus, the image of God he portrays, and the kind of life he invites us to live. I truly believe this world would be a better place if there were more people like Jesus wandering around.
So, hopefully, that gives you a bit of your bearings around here. Again, I’m glad you found my site. I hope you find something meaningful here.
